Intern - SAM Camp (Summer Quarter)

Title: SAM Camp Intern - Unpaid

Learning Objectives:

Program intern will assist program staff in providing meaningful, hands-on experiences with the visual and performing arts and offer support for SAM CAMP recreational activities for program participants (1-5 graders).

Intern Tasks:

  • Assist the program staff in preparing for art studio sessions by organizing and setting up supplies and helping with breakdown after activities.
  • Provide encouragement and meaningful response to participants as they learn, and play.
  • Assist in supervision of children during activity breaks and playtime. This includes positive behavior management.
  • Assist in administrative tasks involving supplies, registration and trainings prior to the beginning of SAM camp and after SAM camp has ended.
  • Filing and other administrative support
  • Meet with the lead staff to assess the internship experience.
  • Abide by the Standards for Museum Volunteers.

Time Commitment:

  • July 8 - July 26, Monday – Friday (Full-time at SAM Camp 8 – 4)
  • Before and after the 3 weeks of SAM Camp, Part-time or full-time (M-F)
  • Internship begins mid-June and ends mid-August
  • Must be available for mandatory volunteer training sessions

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work with children and staff.
  • Ability to communicate well.
  • Caring, encouraging manner.
  • Ability to work with a variety of art materials and techniques.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk around the Art Studio and outdoor play areas.
  • Some manual dexterity (in preparing supplies and assisting children with art making).
  • 20/20 or corrected vision (to see children’s artwork in order to respond in a meaningful way).
  • Some lifting (generally not more than 10-20 pounds).
